EQMac.com

The EQMac community is small enough that I don't feel that we need a charter of specific laws for posting here. Please read the EQMac Moderation Policies if you want some specific rules. The main rule is that if I, or any of the other moderators feel that your post is inappropriate, we will ask you to edit it, remove it ourselves and/or ban you and take other action as we deem fit.

We have had a couple of threads recently that violate EQMac's posting guidelines, as they pertain to marketing and advertising of in-game goods for real-world cash. This is forbidden by SOE's Terms of Use agreement for Everquest, including the Macintosh version, and such posts will be locked, deleted, and the poster banned, if necessary. Posting goods or services not available on Al'Kabor will also be considered "spamming", and the poster will be reported to their ISP.

If you have a legitimate product that you would like to make available to the residents of Al'Kabor (Character portraits, maps or tips on Al'Kabor are examples), please contact me, or another moderator through a PM (or e-mail me at my user name @ eqmac.com) BEFORE posting here. Please remember that all in-game artwork, maps and other material as well as the Everquest name, are copyrighted by SOE, and you will need to contact them to get their permission for use.

Recently, we have had an influx of new members from PC Everquest, many of whom do not own Macs, but are interested in our "old world" charm.

As eqmac.com is the de facto "Official" forums we cannot condone any use of the Apple operating system (Mac OS X), outside of that intended by Apple. ie: Running legitimately purchased Mac OS X on Apple-branded hardware only.

There are several "gray area" alternatives, such as using an altered (Darwin-based, open source) kernel to run Mac OS X on top of non-Apple hardware, or running Mac OS X applications in emulation on Windows or UNIX-based machines.

Similarly, although it hasn't been discussed here, eqmac.com has to support official SOE policies and terms of service on the use of the Everquest product.

So, the bottom line is:
1) Because there is a gray area in the use of Apple's Mac OS X, posts suggesting the use of legitimately purchased copies of Apple's Mac OS X on top of altered open-source kernels on your personal hardware, for private use only will be allowed. Personally, I think "Hackintoshes" are something Steve Wozniak would have endorsed in his earlier days.

2) eqmac.com forums are for discussions on the Everquest Mac Edition game. Please take discussions on the actual "nuts-and-bolts" of how to build non-Apple Mac OS X -based machines elsewhere. While we have a couple of people who are using such setups, you will get far more support and better answers from sites dedicated to hobbyist hardware builds.

3) Absolutely no discussion of emulated servers, pirated software, or other uses which violate the terms of use of either SOE's Everquest or Apple's Mac OS X is allowed! Moderators will lock threads, delete posts or take whatever action we deem necessary, including banning members and/or IP addresses of people who violate this rule.
