Greetings all! I am new to the Mac version of EQ, but I played PCEQ about three years ago on the Druzzil and Drinal servers. I've recently envied my boyfriend's son who plays WoW, and decided to get back into gaming. I thought WoW might be promising, and then I found that it really sucks. I mean, blatantly obvious quests that require no thought, knowledge, or insight? C'mon now! After much debate, I decided to try EQ on Mac. (The debate was in regards to the time I might spend on here. I know it might be a little hard to comprehend, but I used to spend A LOT of time on EQ  ) And I started the class I love the most- the bard.

So here I am. And I'm having problems. I'm currently using the trial version and it keeps crashing. It crashes during play- and I lose all of my settings: video mode, hotkeys, movement/camera/etc settings. It also crashes after about two times of logging in okay. I log in once and log in later, and usually on that third time, I cannot get into the game past the "Play" button. It gets to "Play", and I am able to push the button, but then I get the message that the game has stopped unexpectedly. I can post a report on that crash (it's one of those really long messages that I can't interpret).

I've tried reinstalling the game several times. I spoke ingame to Samatsyn, who told me to try deleting the character.ini file, but I cannot find it.

If I can solve these problems, I think I might like it on this server. I was rather iffy at the fact that the population is so small, there is no customer service, and there aren't as many expansions. But already, I'm beginning to like it. Thus far, I've met Tigertugger and Cromis, who were very nice to me, and I've spoken with a few others who seem cool, too. I kind of like the idea of such a small server now, and it's kind of neat that in a couple more years, as many move on to "bigger" and "better" (ha!) games, we'll be retro and ol-skool ;)

Later,
Melodia

Crashes like you describe are often caused by one of the main files being corrupted. New downloads often have this problem. If you have a solid, fast connection, it may be best to just delete all your EQ files, and re-download.

If your connection is slow or spotty, you might want to try deleting just the everquest files (in your game folder starting with eq or everquest - other than the LP app), and seeing if one of them was the problem.

By the way, EQMac was launched June 26, 2003, with public Beta running March-Early June 2003, so anyone answering more than 4 years in your poll is LYING!!! ;)

one thing in noticed is, that you shouldnt move the EQ folder anywhere else on your harddrive. Doing this will corrupt the files and it will either not start up or crash at different points.

Not sure if this is common Mac knowledge :D i am a Mac user myself for only 6 months.

Actually, not true. I can even makle a copy of the entire folder and move that to a different part of the hard drive, or even a different hard drive altogether. The OS will not have an issue and from that copy, you can run another instance of EQ (A.K.A....ghetto 2-boxing). You just need to make sure you move the entire folder.

Just did this about 2 weeks ago and is running fine. I even re-named the EQLP app, of the copy, as to keep track of which acount is being opened on which copy. I did this cuz I like spell effects on but, spell effects are a pain on raids. So, my main acount has spell effects off(original copy of EQ folder and app)and my second acount(copy)has spell effects on. Really cool stuff!! :D

Yes, I'm pretty new to Mac myself. (You should see me trying to troubleshoot, especially with networking! I have to connect a router to the main router to get an IP address, lol). I haven't moved the folder anywhere. But it downloaded to my desktop. Should it be somewhere else?

Don't forget to rebuild permissions. When I first started EQMac, I would crash, then relog to find all my preferences were gone.

To repair permissions as Snuffyspaw suggested, go to Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility. Select your hard drive and click the "Repair Disk Permissions" button.

I would keep the EverQuest folder in the Applications folder if I were you, but that's a personal preference because I dislike a cluttered desktop. Don't think it should make a difference.

I think that when Samatsyn told you to delete your "character.ini" file, he meant that you should delete the .ini file that is named after your toon. In this case, Melodia_52.ini and UI_Melodia_52.ini. eqclient.ini could also be a culprit. These will be in your EverQuest -> Game folder, along with all the other stuff that Nik was talking about. If you delete those, you'll need to redo your window setup and everything, but if they are what was corrupted/causing the problem, then you should only have to do it once.

Yeah I think that the only file you actually need to start the game is the EverQuestLP app. That will download anything you are missing.
