Way back in 2005 I met a Temerity ranger in Acrylia Caverns who was working on the General's Challenge quest, but he thought it was broken...
6 years later I am very, very pleased to announce that that quest is NOT broken and that the script works as intended. Not only that, but two Grimling High Commanders lay dead at our feet.
Destiny tried in 2009 with about 50 peeps and traditional killing methods... We had no hope in hell in of beating this encounter using the standard assisting the MA and fodder burn down. There were just too many grimlings; you kill one and so, so many would spring up to take their place... You'd need 100 peeps or more to keep up with their spawn rate and multiple MAs using traditional tactics to beat them raid.
Thus, I greatly revised my strategy for this raid... The new strategy HAD to deal with massive, massive numbers of grunts...
The initial plan was to have two groups of enchanters AoE stun lock and AoE nuking. HOVEVER, by the time buffing was done and we headed out to start the raid there were only 24 peeps present...
I switched tactics to have 4 tank babysitters, and just ONE AoE burn down location...
This was a mistake... we wiped... the location was just too far away from all 4 camps and we never got the high commander to spawn... and my box was wasted (box #3 for me)
Undaunted and now in greater numbers, we reverted back to my original plan. Pithy to hold Camp 1&2, while Praus and Lullaby held Camps 3&4... By this time the raid had ballooned to a whopping 32 peeps or so and Cromis turned in his box...
It started out as slow as ever... heck even longer than that as we waited for the script to move on and learned that the cats have to be back at camp with NO aggro before the script will progress... (We had them parked to the side/at the zone line for a long time)
Finally the cats were happy (finicky creatures they are), and the cats respawned...
All hell then broke lose...
Grunts were here and there and everywhere. Peeps were tagging and kiting grimlings to the enchanters just as fast as they possibly could. I think I saw Lana bring about 15 grunts one time on a single pull. I madly ran about checking progress at each camp and tried to AoE when I could and kite where I could. It seemed that things were actually going well when Pips and Pithy called out at the same time that the Grimling High Commander had spawned and was laying waste to their camp...
All but the babysitters converge on Camp 1...
The grunts' commander is wise, he focuses his blows on Pithy and poor Pithy falls dead at his feet... All the stun locked grimlings then wake up pissed as all heck...
They run about smacking everything one and everything, but we remain focused and with murderous intent hunt down their commander...
Two minutes post the call going out that he's up and a mad dash to camp one and the Grimling High Commander is dead, and grunts are still everywhere! Heck they don't even notice that their leader has fallen...
Cromis loots the arm quickly, but Veteran Cullin tells him that I have no time for that now, can't you see there are grunts all about, quit pestering me with that bloody stump in your hands and get killing....
Cromis keeps tapping Cullin... "Excuse me your hairballness... but I have that arm your requested..." Cullin ignores him, blood lust in his eyes...
Grunts the grunts still don't notice that their commander is dead... then again, maybe he had a evil twin brother...
Three and a half minutes later and Placer announces that a new grimling high commander has spawned to take his fallen brother's place... Veteran Cullin is still rudely giving Cromis the cold shoulder...
Only one minute later this time with Fanglore in his face and all hell being rained down upon him, his evil, but not so tough twin hits the ground and I savagely hack off his arm...
Cullin STILL refuses to speak with poor Cromis and the grunts keep on coming and coming and coming... Finally, the grunts overcome one of Cullin's furball-at-arms and the cats decide that they have had enough...
Grunts keep coming and I give the call to get the heck out of dodge...
We come back and mob up the few remaining grunts that chose to pick over the battlefield and we do the same and tend to our fallen...
Then we divvied out the spoils of war...

A new raid is scheduled for July 10th, same general strategy as last time. Any revisions of it to be discussed in the raid forum. Again all peeps are welcome.
We'll be keying Rysia then Tigertugger, followed by Cromis and myself. (Rysia's and Tugg's will be full on raids, where as Cromis and mine will just be to get the right version of Cullin to spawn and then hand in our drops, thus ending those raids and giving us our keys.
Post those raids being done, we'll do as many new keys as we can.
Finally, I am very pleased to announce that once we get a key into someone's hand (Cromis and I are VERY close), we'll be opening up new content for the entire server and hopefully doing open raids deep within Inner AC from time to time to try to uncover some cross server first drops.
Once I am keyed, you're more than welcome to send me a tell at anytime I'm free to zone you into Inner AC. I'm guessing any other peep that gets keyed will gladly do the same.
