A post-apocalyptic wine port. It will take some hefty horse power to get decent performance, if Dragon Age: Origins is any indication of how wine ports perform. Expect some bugs and crashes. Might be fun to play never the less!

On my MBP it runs OK with low settings. Game client is fairly stable but will crash to desktop unexpectedly. FE isn't group orientated - most of the games quests can be done solo - the group stuff is for small groups of two to three people. There doesn't seem to be any raiding style encounters.

It is great for a casual player as you can hop on, do a bit, and log off having achieved something. You can even queue crafting and log off while it gets done and they are developing an iPhone app. Developing a character's skills seems pretty complex and people agonise over the "perfect build". Anyway, a nice distraction while my game time has been limited.

As I feared, the performance on my 1year old iMac is dreadful to the point of unplayable. I get 4fps at the lowest settings. Besides that, I couldn't seem to even get an answer on how to interact with the computer. It didn't seem obvious.

Anyway, this game is way too slow for all but the newest Macs I'm sure.

The hardware requirements are pretty high end (Recommended is Quad Core!) but it runs ok on my 3 year old MBP so it should work better than OK on your iMac.

In low lag areas, with the beta client you will probably get around 20+ FPS. In high lag areas (like built up towns) it drops to 7 or 8 FPS with my 8600GT card.

They updated the beta client overnight and people are reporting big improvements (various other threads, not the one linked below) and there has been an issue with ATI cards. ** I've tried it and it is MUCH faster **

With the computer do you mean in the tutorial? Just click on it with your mouse.

Not really, RL has the better of me at the moment. FE is just an easy (free 10 day) option to do fun solo stuff in an hour.

I'm told grouping does happen but you can solo 95% of stuff. Groups and the clans must come more with the PvP side of the game.

Well in the starting area I was getting 4 fps. That's unacceptable to me. I dunno, I clicked on the terminal thing and nothing happened. I asked in chat if what to do and never got an answer. My quest was supposedly to "talk to the computer" or something like that. It was soooo slow that I got entirely frustrated after only a couple of minutes of this. I reloaded to see if it would help and it was the same.

Sounds like the first step in the tutorial to "talk to the terminal". You walk over to the way point shown on the small map, then mouse over it, and either click on the terminal or hit "Y" for yes. It gives you the quest, "talk to the terminal", then you move to the terminal just across the opposite side (its a different terminal; there is a new waypoint on your mini-map), mouse over it until you see the "press Y or click a mouse button".

Try the new beta client update. I found it a huge improvement in terms of speed. Under Options (CMD-O), make sure you hit Optimal in terms of graphics settings.

Yeah I did the update and it made no difference. I didn't see a way-point map, or if I did I didn't realize what I was looking at. I'll read the manual only if the speed of the game improves.

Thanks for the help anyway Aer, it looks like an interesting game.

The mini-map is on the top right hand side of your UI - you'll see a little red-dot. You can also bring up the bigger map with hitting "M". FPS indoors won't be that great, probably around 12-16 FPS. If goes right up outdoors (high 20-30 FPS), where I've found I've spent most of my time so far.

Bit of a spoiler but you start the tutorial as L40 which lets you have some fun then you die at the end of it... back to L1. Once you get through it and respawn make sure you do the extended tutorial for the freebie horse by talking to the first NPCs you see.

They did another small patch to the client today.

Got it working better Aer. I had to turn off Post FX. I get around 20 fps inside the dam now, but just crashed at the bottom of the elevator.

Yes, sorry I did mention a problem with ATI cards but didn't say what to do about it! Sorry Lana.

Another beta update.

http://forums.fallenearth.com/fallenear ... hp?t=39089

Pretty stable now, lots of new features in-game with the 1.5 patch and they've launched an iPhone app for the game which allows you to login and email, trade, craft (limited at moment), check equipment and stats, and even chat.
