Here is a though, how about we call each toon mercenary alt1, mercenary alt2 or something like that... When a guild member wants to attend an event using a mercenary alt, he or she can log their main for identity purposes then the guild should consider the mercenary as a member of the guild for that session... Or maybe guilds can allow mercenaries as box only? I is understandable that every guild should say mercenaries can't loot.
One thing is for sure, if we find a way to make this work, there will be many more people boxing 2 and 3.
In my opinion, guilds should do everything they can to accommodate this concept.
One of the draws of guilds is knowing who your fellow guild members are and working together for common goals and the good of that guild. With something like this, where people from various guilds or, as this seems, un-guilded people are using the same account, there would always be suspicion to the true identity of who was behind the box as well as their motives.
If specific guilds want to have boxed accounts for their members to use depending on situation, that would be okay in my opinion. I believe quite a few guilds already do this and limit the access to only highly trusted members.
To say that guilds should do everything they can to accommodate this concept is a bit off-putting. If this is what you want your OWN guild to be, then create one.
