I played the sh it out of wc2, sc, wc3, and now recently the sc2 beta, getting to diamond league before the servers went down (multi boxing APM translates pretty well to SC2 APM, surprisingly)

since the game is out now, if anyone from eqmac wants to play/watch some games, hit me up here
also can invite you to my ventrilo if that's your thing

if you are reading this and you haven't played sc2 yet, it is seriously such a blast, i highly recommend it

I've been following E-Sports (read: pro sc1) for about 3 years now and the beta tourney scene has been pretty massive. It will be interesting to see if sc2 is as good of a spectator sport as sc1... so far the consensus has been a no, but only time will tell

IMO RTS games have not evolved in any way since Dune 2.

The graphics have gotten better, but it's still the same game. Maybe more types of wood for your peon to gather, maybe more buildings you have to build to traverse the tech tree, but the first 75% of every level you play is exactly the same.

It all comes down to how fast you can tell your peons to chop wood.

I think you are referring to the single player experience, which is fine. However, multiplayer SC has been unequivocally evolving for over 10 years. Just saying. =)

Really? I've been playing RTS's since the early-mid 90's, and mostly online. Been playing SC2 a ton since it came out. I see no difference.

Well Judah, for the sake of some friendly banter, I'll go into a bit more detail. ;)

What I'm trying to point out is that while the game itself might be the same old thing (gather resources --> build units --> attack), the meta-game strategies constantly shift, so that is something at least. And they don't just shift in little amounts; there have been some revolutionary years that brought about units that had never been seen before.

Also, I feel obligated to mention Suriinya's over-simplification of the game.

If you apply this to the multi-player aspect, it is ironically not only false, but the exact opposite of what "it all comes down to" in the virtually any professional series (meaning micro, as opposed to macro). This type of conclusion really only applies to the lower half of the skill spectrum.

Maybe I'm not looking hard enough...but I just don't see it. Sure, SC2 may not be identical to Dune 2, but take away the graphics, and I see no difference between this and Age of Mythologies.

Never played Age of Mythologies, but any good (read: balanced) RTS should technically have an evolving metagame as time progresses (as long as there is a sufficient player base to drive it, that is).

Anyways, if anyone wants to play some, hit me up. I've made it to rank 2 of my diamond division now (#2028 in North America, wheee).
