Hey all.

On the character select screen, I am happy with how my mouse moves. Smooth, fast, crisp.

However, in almost all EQmac zones, while my graphics are fine and snappy, moving the mouse around to click spells, inventory, etc. stutters, sticks, is slow and inconsitant. This makes game play much less enjoyable.

In zones like Warsilik, the mouse is just awful.

I'm using a G5, 1.8, 3 gig of ram and the standard geforce fx 5200.

Ideas?

Unfortunately, EQMac uses a software mouse rather than the system hardware mouse. Mouse lag will be something you'll need to get used to.

If SOE can rework our client, that will be one of the 3 major things I'm asking to be fixed.

1) Universal Binary
2) UI lag issue
3) Hardware mouse

I'm assuming both 2 and 3 include recognizing modern graphics cards?

Well that explains it.

Ok, so what changes can I make to improve software based mouse performance? Faster processor, more RAM, fast videocard, more vidio RAM, lower res, etc...

Any tips on what will have the best effect? Do I have these type of options or am I going to need to hotkey everything?

Nope.

2 is a "switch" that was inadvertently left on which redraws the UI thousands of times. 3 is unknown to me, but Brad Oliver says it should be relatively simple to implement after the client gets recompiled into xcode for Universal Binary.

Try /mousespeed (0-3). Also, use /viewport and keep all UI elements out of the world area, and make sure none of them touch each other even by a single pixel. You will probably still get occasional UI lag, which slows the cursor to a crawl, but a quick log out/log in will usually fix it. Alternatively, you can reload the UI.

A quick fix for me was windowed mode, allows for more space on the UI and the mouse seems to move faster. Or just look down whenever possible, always helps.

umm... might be needless to say but reverse evolving onself to a non wireless mouse will help on lag also.

Are you teasing us that SOE is even entertaining the idea of fixing something in Al'Kabor?

That will depend on how well my meeting goes with the EQ Producer in 2 weeks. Don't hold your breath....but also don't discount my powers of persuasion.

You'll know after I do. Meetings were postponed, an, EQ2 expansion was released, vacations happened. Working on it still.
