Tizie knew she should just let this Greenblood go. She was low on mana and Zeban with something less then half of his hit points hadn't recovered from his last battle yet. She sat at the top of the hill and watched the Ogre lumber down the path until it was just even with the Dwarf merchant. Ignoring her own common sense she stood and gave the fire elemental the attack command. Dipping into her meager mana pool she called a flame bolt and hurled it at the Greenblood. The bolt wounded the ogre but for only about half of it's usual damage. Zeban wouldn't last much longer and she had only enough mana for one burn spell. Screaming her best gnomish war cry and lashing the air franticly with her little staff, Tizie ran down the hill and struck the huge ogre soundly on the knee.
For awhile things were looking good for the little gnome. The ogre turned his attention from Zeban and hacked away at Tizie. Her magic shield deflected some of the savage blows and as she ducked and weaved trying ( with little success) to avoid the great sword, landing a blow now and then herself. The tactic seemed to be working as the life slowly drained out of the lumbering giant. But Tizie was sorely wounded and it was time to step back, let the elemental take the agro again, and throw her remaining magic at the mostly dead ogre. She felt only pride at a fight well won as she began to cast her spell when suddenly she was above herself, looking down with stunned disbelief at her own corpse.
Thus began what became, for me, a frustrating journey of learning as I struggled a little farther up the steep learning curve here in Norrath.
Playing Tizie I had managed to get her killed many times experimenting with one dumb tactic or another, especially in those pre level 10 times. And the times I've killed her after lv 10 was because I generally took a bite bigger then Tizie could chew and didn't let the poor little gnome girl run away until it was just too late. I wasn't sure what killed her this time and didn't really care. It was about time I logged out anyway and I figured to just get my stuff, gate home, and log off. So I didn't mem my spells and just ran to the book in Steamfont, across PoK, and clicked my way back to BB. Before long I'd run Tizie past the Cross Roads and was nearing the little stone huts with the merchants. It seemed strange to me that Zarchoomi was standing right there by my corpse, but I had seen her many time, conned her many times, and she had never attacked me before, even when I had hailed her. So I didn't think much about it and just ran up and started to loot Tizie's corpse. And then Tizie had two corpses in BB. Zarchoomi didn't even bother to cast a spell, just beat poor Tizie to death before she could even stand up from the looting position.
Lesson learned ... Just because it didn't kill you yesterday, doesn't mean it won't kill you today.
This time I memorized all my spells, cast shield and invisibility on Tizie before leaving the safety of the Cross Roads. Sure enough Zarchoomi was right there standing over both of Tizie's corpses. I figured this was a really good time to see if I could really drag Tizie's corpse while invisible. So I sat down and was going to make a hot button macro. I'd just started when the first spell hit me, followed swiftly by another and then by a very pissed off Ogre just beating the daylights out of me. I managed to stand up turn around and run screaming toward the guards at the cross roads before leaving a third corpse in BB. I must admit that at this point I laughed out loud at myself and wonder why everything that chased me also had a way to slow me down.
Lesson learned ... just because you think you are invisible doesn't mean you all. Consider the dangerous mob anyway.
I figured that now she would be camping Tizie's third corpse and I was right. She was right there where I thought she would be. I was invisible again so staying well away I conned her ... sure enough she was ready to attack. The damned ogre bitch could see right through Tizie's invisible But it was going to be easy this time, or so I thought, because I could just run way around her and then loot Tizies first corpse and then get the hell out of Dodge. So I did that. Or tried to. As soon as I started looting Zarchoomi, as you might expect, killed Tizie again. Four Corpses now.
Lesson learned ... just because you are out of agro range while standing doesn't mean you are out of agro range while sitting or looting.
I went in with all guns blazing this time having stopped at the bank in PoK and picked up a malachite so I could cast a pet to protect Tizie. To hell with dragging her corpse to some safe place to loot. A pissed off gnome mage with a fully buffed fire elemental and a topped off mana supply is a force to be reckoned with even if she was just 13 circles of power old. Zarchoomi conned dark blue and Tizzie had dispatched many yellow cons and even one red who had surprised her by jumping out screaming "Booga Booga!" Zarchoomi would die!
Tizie's fire pet streaked in and began doing his thing and a very satisfied Tizie threw 2 fire bolts, one of which hit for full damage. Zarchoomi was down to half but so was the fire pet. Smuggle Tizzie began casting another fire bolt when she was struck a savage blow from behind. Turning Tizie saw it was another wandering Greenblood who had come out of no where. Tizie just ran. A little gnome girl just can't outrun a lumbering ogre no matter how much she wanted to. But she did almost make it to the Cross roads and did have the satisfaction of knowing that her pet did survive long enough and managed to kill Zarchoomi just before the lousy Greenblood add smashed yet another Tizie corpse into the bloody turf of the Butcher Block Mountains.
Lesson learned ... Norrath is a really, really fun place. Always dangerous but really fun.
It was a cake walk, just like I thought the first CR would be, finally looting her corpse, getting all her stuff back, dispatching all of her corpses (Tizie and I would be just too embarrassed to leave them littering the landscape) and gated back home without further incident. I was almost disappointed ... so was Tizie.
