I'd like to hear some suggestions on what you think is the best class for killing bosses and named high level NPC (epic etc..) in a solo/minimal party situation.

And..go!

most bosses aren't meant to be killed solo. However many players do. I am a druid and have soloed lodi, Sev, Gore, VS, Wushi, Brisbane, Zelniak. druids Bards, necros, clerics, shadowknights, and shaman are the best for taking on these kind of encounters truly solo.

Chanters are a must in small party encounters that require more tanking and dps than the normal small group of raiders can muster. also clerics are where its at for any small raiding party.

Soloing, not much. As Wemsler said, a few classes can solo Kunark dragons and the like. For those that box, you want a melee toon, a good healer and a slower. Any extra dps on top of that is gravy. That opens up a lot more options.

There are some encounters that can be defeated by one person boxing a lot of toons. I think Pithy has, by himself, boxed XTC and Avatar of War for instance. That requires access to several well-geared toons, a high-functioning computer and a tolerance for multi-tasking like you wouldn't believe.

How many boxes did he use for AoW, that is pretty impressive. Can't imagine doing a CH chain all by yourself.

Solo CH isn't bad depending upon how you do it. I wouldn't want to ghetto box tank plus the tanks CH rotation though. I'd definitely want more than one keyboard involved. Zamiel has the completely opposite attitude, I believe.

But I've done up to a 4-healer rotation by myself using 4 computers. That's actually pretty easy. I can watch the cast bar of the last one to cast and start the next one at exactly the right instant.

But when you add the other work involved... I bet Pithy uses multiple computers. If I were doing it, one of those machines would be for the tank. I'd spread the healing and DPS around on the other computers.

Eh, a good 97% of the time I just use one box, a Mac Pro running Snow Leopard and Virtue Desktops. I think Zamiel and I take a pretty similar approach to megaboxing, with the notable exception that I don't use any automation 'ware, ShowEQ or other third party hacks. My CH rots are 100% gnome, baby!

1 box, 9 toons, and about 17 cups of coffee!

I have this image of Pithy, Zamiel and I, all boxing in a room. Zam and Pithy each have a desk piled with coffee, No-Doze, and a single computer with a single screen.

Next to them is me, surrounded by keyboards and screens, drawn as an octopus with hands reaching out in each direction.

If you were to animate the image, then all you would see is Zam and Pithy with this intense look of concentration and a flicking light from their screen as they switch between EQ instances. If there's a conversation, they're talking 90 miles a second. Their fingers are nothing but blurs. Next to them, the octopus's arms are waving all over the place and swiveling its head back and forth, but each of the arms is moving almost languidly.

I won't criticize Zam or Pithy on this -- they've both accomplished things I haven't. But what I do works for me. Maybe if I do enough ghetto boxing for a few years, I'd grow to like it. But I may just be too old for that, too.

Did I mention the octopus should be drawn all wrinkly and with a cane propped nearby? :-)

LMAO you havent "soloed" s*. Solo means 1 toon, not one person behind an army of bots.

I am the ONLY person on the server that has genuinely "soloed" anything, besides Gnostica.

I have soloed Wuoshi on my Ranger Lyrad more than once, I am also quite close to soloing both Talendor and Severilous. My personal interest is Dragons so that what I tend to focus on.

Duoing with Ranger/Cleric I have done: All the trash named in BoT, Kelorek 'Dar, Wuoshi, Severilous, Talendor, Gorenaire, Zelnithak among others.

I know Punchem has made some pretty impressive kills with Monk/Shaman combo: Dozekar, Trakanon etc.

Delorne is a crazy 'raid' boss killing machine soloing with his Bard.

That's a good point actually! A really well-geared SK is probably right up there with bards for the most powerful 'true solo' class. Have you tried Trak yet, Lron? I think Buffem's gotten the monk/shm Trak duo down, but I don't think anyone's truly soloed him yet. An SK buddy of mine did it at 65 with EP gear, back in the day...

Well, clerics and druids (Dwin, Cromis, Wems, probably others) have been A'K's most successful soloers so far, so I wouldn't count the priest classes out!

Trakanon solo would be impressive, though. Given that the hardest part of the fight is usually when he starts to run, an SK might well be best suited to the job.
