They are getting rid of the desktop launcher if I am not mistaken, which is the only thing I can get to work on 10.4.
From what I remember the browser launcher is 10.5 and above.

What is the best option? I would least like to upgrade to 10.5 or above of all the options.

Edit: I have an intel processor

Thanks!

It's more than the version of the OS, it's the processor. Do you have a PPC (G4 or G5) processor or Intel? If you have Intel, then upgrade to OS to 10.5.x or higher and use the Intel Client. If you're using a PPC processor, then upgrading the OS is not going to help.

Are you on an Intel or PowerPC Mac? If you're still using Tiger, it's probably PPC, but we can find out.

Click the apple button in the menu bar, then 'About this Mac', then look at the text next to Processor.

You can buy a copy of Leopard and upgrade, then, and you can play with the new client. They're kind of expensive but you can still find them around. There are also less savory methods.

Originally when I started playing here I was directed to the browser based launcher and it never worked. I think the tech guy said it would only work on 10.5 or above. I really have no desire to upgrade my OS as there is nothing wrong with it (Lion is meh).

The SoE tech person told me to try the desktop client and it fixed everything. Now they are apparently taking away my "fix everything."

Your choice is to upgrade your OS or not to play EQ.

Once again, we're not saying upgrade to Lion.

10.4 is Tiger
10.5 is Leopard
10.6 is Snow Leopard
10.7 is Lion

If you dont like Lion then pick the either Leopard or Snow Leopard, or you wont be able to play EQ.

I'm pretty sure you can't upgrade straight from 10.4 to anything but 10.5 anyway.

I was gonna ask about this too. I found lots of great deals on 10.6 but i'm not sure I can even go from 10.4 to 10.6 or above.

Per this forum post: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=781853

You can do a direct upgrade to 10.6. 10.5 is not needed.

I have not tried this myself, so YMMV...

Time moves on, things change. There's no reason not to upgrade.

I got a copy of 10.6 really cheap. Now I just gotta find a reliable way to jump from 10.4 to 10.6 and skip 10.5. They exist, I just have to be able to do it.

Insert 10.6 DVD. Run the installer.

Okay, first, back up the macintosh. All your files and stuff since I'm not sure you can "Upgrade" from 10.4 to 10.6 without have 10.5 (Leopard) installed.

Second, insert Snow Leopard DVD and restart. When the white screen appears, hold the 'alt' or 'option' key. You should be able to select to boot from "Macintosh HD" and any other HD partition you have and "Snow Leopard DVD".

Select SL DVD and let it load. Once you choose your language and stuff, it should give you the option to install. Go up to the menu bar and select utilities and select Disk Utility from the list. You can ERASE the hard drive from here.
NOTE: When you put in the new name for your fresh HD you should name it Macintosh HD. You don't have to but I recommend xD

Third, after the hard drive is erase, go back and select the blank new partition named Macintosh HD and install SL on it.

Fourth, Happy EQing =D

NOTE OF NOTES!

If its possible to install 10.6 over 10.4 without erasing your HD and doing a clean install instead of an upgrade, ignore my post all together xD
