1) Tweet at John Smedley's twitter

- John Smedley is the president of Sony Online Entertainment and the person actually in charge of which game gets cut and which game doesn't get cut.
- His twitter is: https://twitter.com/#!/j_smedley
- Tweet at him and plead with him to save Al'Kabor. Use the hash tag #savealkabor in your tweets.
- If you don't have a Twitter account, sign up for one. It is free, and as long as you possess an IQ of over 50 or so, you should be able to figure out how to use the site.
- Don't be mean, as this is the guy we need to sway to our side. Probably a heartfelt message is best.
- If you participate in other communities, online or otherwise, urge them to Tweet at Smedley also. Spread the word!

2) Email John Smedley

- His e-mail is: jsmedley@soe.sony.com
- Email him and plead with him to save Al'Kabor. Go into more detail than your tweets, since this can be an entire letter. For example, you could go into the issue of how people have devoted upwards of ten-thousand hours to the game over the course of eight and a half years, and are only given two-months notice before their characters are deleted.
- Again, don't be mean, as this is the guy we need to sway to our side.

3) Vote in my poll

- viewtopic.php?f=1&t=11019
- No-one knows officially why the server is getting shut down, but Hobart has hinted in-game that it has to do with the subscription numbers.
- The idea for the poll is to provide Smedley some data that says, "Look! Even if EQMac isn't profitable right now, it could be."

4) Post on the closure thread on the SoE forums

- The thread is here: http://forums.station.sony.com/eq/posts ... _id=182821
- Voice your displeasure.

Sticky? =)

5) Call SOE customer service and voice your opinion. Ask to talk to supervisors, and supervisors of supervisors. Domestic CS number is (858)-537-0898. International numbers are listed here.

6) Submit an in-game /feedback or a petition or live chat session here.

Well, if you don't advertise your product, how do you expect to get subscribers?
Word of mouth and internet searches only go so far.

This has been one of the biggest failings of SOE: Marketing.

For my 2 cents worth, Smeds will get a well balanced, polite and thought out email, despite my hatred of the man.

If it really had to do with subscription numbers, couldn't they just move it over to PC, where tons more people would want to play it? I know many people would want a Live server that doesn't go beyond PoP, just most of us aren't hipsters with Macs (jokes!)

Done. I sent my petition to Mr Smedley.

I think I'll take a shower now.

Yes, we should not go quietly, but as far as Smedley is concerned... remember 2004?

I'm not sure adding extra support cost by overwhelming CS is a good tactic?

Other ideas:

get some celebrity support: Curt Schiling was a long time EQ player, as was R.A. Salvatore (he played a monk on Povar). Perhaps we could notify them of our plight and ask them to lend their celebrity voices to us in support. Maybe we could message them on Facebook or Twitter.

create a video montage on Youtube with dramatic music, accounts of what the server means to us, and images and film from Al'Kabor, and send it to some Sony big whigs.

get media support.

I've also emailed, politely asking him to reconsider.

I can't believe there is any comparable MMORPG experience out there. Al'Kabor's situation is unique, a hangover from the days when online gaming had a completely different character, and a result of our uniquely low population. For a lot of us, Norrath genuinely is a kind of second home. We don't just play there, we live there: running across the Karanas just for the hell of it, sitting quietly in a corner doing absurdly repetitive tasks for impossibly meagre rewards, joining our friends and going somewhere merely because it's a place we've always wanted to see.

It's a haven from the compulsive/addictive model of perpetual advantage-grabbing and competition-winning that defines most corporations' idea of a "game." All of us who've lived on the server for a long time know that it has a history of its own which is nothing to do with who reached what target when or who beat who to doing what. It has a *real* history: unforgettable characters, dramas, long slow ups and downs, unforgettable friendships.

I can't play as much as I used to these days, but even for me it feels strangely like losing a limb. Fingers crossed that the powers that can can be encouraged to rethink this decision.

Does anyone understand the rationale? It must be economic, right? (Why else do corporations make decisions?) But in that case, why now?

We can gain a lot of supports from PC servers as well (and already started getting that).
Let your friends know, if they play on PC let them inform their guilds, have them post for support in the thread on the official forums.
I'm polishing my Email to Smed for all that will do.
